Leading pharmaceuticals multinational: Technical assessment of technologies for targeted drug delivery

Our client asked:

Our client was looking for a technology to support a delivery of their API to target/specific sites.

The project story:

We identified existing and emerging devices and non-device technology options for targeted percutaneous and trans-luminal drug administration. Requirements for viscosity, specificity, accuracy, and practicality defined a search with particular challenges.

We interviewed stakeholders and researchers to validate technology applicability and developed a framework describing solutions strategies vs. technology functionality.

Selected technologies were profile and evaluated according to the set of criteria involved including: technology functionality, mode of dosing, facilities required for administration, level of development, and time to a potential clinical trial with a new API.

Results: deliverables and outcomes

We provided recommendations on short-term and commercially available solutions and medium- to long-term solutions, including options claiming versatile applicability for a range of molecules.

It was understood that applicability of the prioritised medium/ long technologies would require compatibility testing and potential co-development to accommodate the specific nature of an API of interest.
