Our approach:

Developed with empathy, ease of use, and the realities of parenthood in mind, the celleste concept was shaped through interviews and co‑creation sessions with mothers, ensuring it responded to real-world needs.

We demonstrated the feasibility of an impedance-based sensor for somatic cell count, an indicator of inflammation, and addressed the challenge of maintaining long-term accuracy through a novel, replaceable sensor mechanism.

Rapid prototyping helped us refine form and interaction. Mothers consistently asked for something portable, intuitive, and sensitive in how it delivers feedback, without relying on a companion app – insights that directly shaped the final design.

Our sensing approach was benchmarked against gold-standard cell counting methods using representative samples, confirming its ability to detect pre-symptomatic changes with near-instant results.

celleste provides immediate feedback on mastitis risk while also tracking changes over time, offering actionable guidance on latch, symptom management, and when to seek care – all in under a minute a day.
