Prosurgics: Breakthrough surgical robot – FreeHand

Our client asked:

Prosurgics needed a partner to rapidly develop a more compact, user friendly and lower cost robotic surgery device. The timescales to upgrade their EndoAssist product were ambitious.

The project story:

Sagentia Medical was responsible for the management and coordination of all partners and appointed their own team of mechanical, electronics and software engineers and work commenced immediately. We worked with the client to optimise the BoM for both disposable and capital elements and we managed the supply chain and manufacturing transfer.

Results: deliverables and outcomes

• The development was rapid. Within 7 months the prototypes were deployed

• Software was developed and validated to prevailing ISO standards in only 12 months

• Full design history records enabled FDA and CE approval (Jan and Feb 2009)

• ‘Innovation of the Year’ by the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons

• In 2008 FreeHand was the winner of the ERBI Medtech Innovation award

“Sagentia’s product development and project management skills have enabled us to leverage our IP and know-how in the most effective manner. The reduction in risk and faster time-to-market is critical for a company with the ambition of Prosurgics.” Paul Moraviec, CEO, Prosurgics
