Experts in medical technology development

Sagentia Medical combines technical and design expertise with deep understanding and experience of the markets in which we operate. This is essential to our approach, whether the motivation for innovation is better patient outcomes, improved clinical team experience, healthcare economics or improving patient access. In the last 10 years we’ve taken more than 20 Class II/III products through FDA clearance and CE marking across these markets.

Diagnostic technologies

Addressing the needs of users at the point of care, in patient homes and central laboratories

Performing diagnostic testing outside of central laboratories improves healthcare access and enables faster treatment decisions. We collaborate with medical diagnostics companies to addresses user needs at Point of Care (PoC) and within other decentralised settings. Next generation devices must be quick, cost-effective, and match laboratory performance. Our teams have the skills and experience to deliver these critical capabilities for you.

The medical diagnostics team supports clients from across the field, including immunoassays, sequencing, molecular diagnostics, clinical chemistry, haematology, and oncology. Advising on how to convert assays from bench-tests to user-friendly products, including microfluidic consumables, instruments, and software. Along with supporting you with the transfer of new technologies from early research to feasibility demonstrators, providing assay performance data and usability feedback. Designs are prominent at PoC, and work also occurs behind the scenes in high-throughput central labs, enhancing automation, detection, and enabling new functionality.

Surgical and interventional

Ensuring safety and precision in surgical device development

Surgical and interventional procedures require high levels of skill and expertise from clinical teams working at the forefront of healthcare. We help our clients deliver innovative devices and systems to improve procedural effectiveness, safety and cost efficiency. This is achieved through our deep experience in navigation, energy, minimally invasive instruments, augmented reality, advanced visualisation and biosurgery. Technological expertise is combined with user and commercial insights from our human factors and front end innovation teams.

Our work has given clinical teams improved visualisation of the surgical site, advanced energy instruments for electrosurgery, novel biomaterials for regenerating tissue and real-time guidance from procedural data. The results of our innovation can be found in the operating room, the cath lab and across the continuum of care.

Surgical robotics

Developing robotic surgery systems

Surgical robotics is revolutionising modern surgery, through offering surgeons enhanced dexterity, access and visualisation. We have a wealth of experience from the commercial development of over 20 different systems for our start-up and multinational clients. These have included a wide range of configurations ranging from multi-port and single-port systems for improving minimally invasive soft tissue surgery, to endovascular and endoluminal systems for advanced interventional procedures.

Our multi-disciplinary product development teams are pioneering next generation systems by integrating robotics with advanced technology for navigation, visualisation and energy delivery. Working at the cutting edge of surgical robotics, enhancing operating room efficiency in established segments of the market and enabling new procedures in emerging applications of robotics. Combining robotics with digital surgery, deploying data analytics to derive actionable insights and using data fusion to enhance human-machine interfaces. We look forward to continuing to support our clients in pushing the boundaries of healthcare with surgical robotics.

Women’s health innovations

Addressing the gaps in women’s health

Innovation in women’s health requires targeted initiatives across the care continuum. We collaborate with you to disrupt the status quo in areas such as HPV, IVF, incontinence, and uterine fibroids. By applying deep empathy to women’s health design, supported by our strong foundation in science and technology development, clients achieve competitive differentiation in this growing market.

Sagentia Medical has developed advanced solutions for gynaecology, at-home diagnostics, IVF technology, breast heath and femtech. We have leveraged digital tools to improve the accuracy and interoperability of diagnostics, developed innovative visualisation systems to improve surgical effectiveness and used AI with bioinformatics to improve IVF success rates. Through addressing these gaps we aim to improve health outcomes and empower women with better healthcare choices.

Medical devices

Bringing novel therapies into clinical practice

From small, novel devices to large, complex systems, we have the expertise to bring your medical device vision to reality. At our core is a team of applied scientists and electro-mechanical engineers who innovate from first principles. Strong user-centric design capabilities ensure your technology is adopted by users, and our advisory consultants help you develop actionable strategies for sustainable commercial success.

Along with surgical, diagnostics and women’s health, other areas of experience in medical device design include neurotech, dentistry and hospital-based drug delivery systems. In neurotech, expertise in physiology, algorithms, miniaturised charging systems and human factors are combined to create patient-centric solutions that maximise therapeutic effectiveness. In dentistry, the focus is on both restorative and preventative technologies, leveraging applied chemistry and electromechanical systems as the market increasingly adopts innovative vision systems, loupes and robotics.
